Laboratoires De Biarritz Océane Bioes Monoï Oil 100ml (3.38fl oz) brings the Polynesian classic into organic cosmetics: coconut oil from organic farming infused with tiaré flower (Gardenia Tahitensis). Monoï nourishes skin and hair intensely and leaves a light, recognisable scent behind. The oil is very easy to spread and sinks in quickly, so one bottle covers body and hair - the Coconut and Tiaré Flower versions differ only in their fragrance. It is a year-round oil rather than a summer-only product.

Monoï as Polynesia makes it

Native to Polynesia, monoï is coconut oil in which tiaré flowers have been steeped. Laboratoires De Biarritz keeps that simple: Cocos Nucifera oil from organic farming, Gardenia Tahitensis flower, hydrogenated coconut oil, tocopherol and sunflower seed oil. It intensely nourishes the skin and hair and wraps them in a delicate veil of scent - the whole appeal of monoï is that it does a lot with very few ingredients.

One bottle for skin and for hair

The oil is very easy to apply and penetrates easily, which is what makes it work on two jobs at once: hydrating the skin, and conditioning hair. On the body, massage it into damp or dry skin. On hair, use it as a mask or work a little into dry ends. One practical quirk of real monoï: it liquefies at 25°C and sets below that, so a few seconds under hot water brings it back.

Worth knowing before you buy: despite sitting in the sun category, monoï is not a sunscreen - the brand states plainly that it is not intended to provide UV protection and does not protect against UVA/UVB rays, so wear an actual SPF over or before it. It also sets solid below 25°C and needs warming under hot water. The Tiaré Flower version is more heavily fragranced and contains linalool, benzyl benzoate, benzyl salicylate, farnesol and isoeugenol.

How to use
