Eye Care Cosmetics Waterproof eyeshadow pencil is a 3.15 g (0.11 oz) jumbo pencil that replaces a palette, a brush and a primer with one stick. It carries colour in a very long-hold waterproof formula that you can blend out with a fingertip for either an iridescent or a matte finish, depending on the shade. What is unusual is the formula underneath: it contains silicon and vitamin F to help tone the delicate eyelid skin and improve its elasticity, plus vitamin E as an antioxidant. It is made without chromium, preservatives, carmine or parabens - a high-tolerance product for sensitive or allergic eyes.

Care built into the colour

Eyelid skin is the thinnest on the face, which is why this pencil is formulated as skincare as much as makeup. Silicon and vitamin F are included to help tone and increase elasticity on that delicate skin, and vitamin E, known for its antioxidant properties, is there to help limit visible signs of ageing. That is the opposite of the usual trade-off with a long-wear eyeshadow, where staying power normally comes at the cost of dryness and tugging on the lid.

One pencil, two finishes

The jumbo format is ultra easy to apply: draw it straight onto the lid, then soften the edge with a fingertip before it sets. Depending on the shade you receive you get a perfect iridescent or matte finish, and the very long-hold waterproof base means it does not crease into the socket line or migrate under the eye. For removal the brand specifically recommends its 2-in-1 bi-phase makeup remover, which is effective and well tolerated by the skin. The high-tolerance formula is free from chromium, preservatives, carmine and parabens.

Worth knowing before you buy: the shade is not chosen at checkout - the manufacturer supplies several colours depending on availability, and since the finish is iridescent on some shades and matte on others, you cannot be sure which you will get. Waterproof also means genuinely stubborn: water and a normal cleanser will not shift it, and you will need a bi-phase or oil-based remover. A jumbo pencil also blunts as you use it and needs a large-barrel sharpener, which is not included. You have a short window to blend before it sets.
