Tiki Monoï De Tahiti Tiare Gardenia Body and Hair 120ml (4.06fl oz) is the original monoi - fine coconut oil in which fresh Tiare Tahiti flowers have been macerated, so the scent comes from the flowers rather than from a reconstituted fragrance. One 120 ml bottle covers both uses: massaged into damp skin it hydrates and leaves a silky finish, left on dry hair it nourishes the fibre and brings back shine. There is a real Tiare flower sitting inside the bottle. Tiki is the pioneering monoi house, and this is the product the American coconut body oils are imitating.

Tiare flowers and coconut oil

The method is the whole product: fresh Tiare Tahiti flowers macerated in fine coconut oil, which is rich in essential fatty acids and absorbs quickly into both skin and hair. That is what lets it hydrate and deeply nourish without sitting on the surface for hours. On skin it provides lasting hydration to the upper layers of the epidermis, and the scent is floral - delicate and subtle rather than the heavy sweet coconut most drugstore oils go for.

Skin and hair care

On hair, the oil intensely nourishes the fibre and helps restore softness and shine, which is why it works as a pre-wash treatment on dry or damaged lengths. It is also tied to Taurumi, the traditional Tahitian art of massage: used that way it carries the massage and, as the brand describes it, helps release deep muscle tension. The cosmetic-grade PET bottle is chosen for better stability - just do not leave it somewhere very hot.

It carries no sun protection: this is a care oil, not a sunscreen. Below 24 °C the oil solidifies in the bottle (harmless, just warm it gently), and like any oil it can mark clothes and bedding.

How to use

Apply to the skin, ideally while it is still damp after bathing, then massage in. You can also add a few drops to your bathwater. For dry or damaged hair, leave on for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. You can also use it for a body massage. Below 24 °C, the monoi may solidify without losing its properties. Warm it gently to liquefy it.
