A soap-free cleansing oil that calms itching on very dry, atopic-prone skin

Avène XeraCalm A.D Lipid-Replenishing Cleansing Oil is a lipid-replenishing cleansing oil that cleanses and protects very dry skin, including skin prone to atopic eczema and itching, from newborns to adults. It can be used on the face, body and scalp. Its soap-free base, at a physiological pH of 5.5, cleanses gently without stripping the skin. The formula is built around I-modulia, a patented postbiotic active derived from Avène Thermal Spring Water that helps reduce itching linked to dryness, supports the skin's defences and limits irritation. Cer-Omega, a complex of skin-identical lipids, helps restore the protective hydrolipidic film, and the thermal water itself soothes and softens. In Avène's study, itching eased from the first use and was reduced by 67% after three weeks. It does not sting the eyes and is suitable during and after cancer treatments.

The texture

A fluid oil that turns into a soft, milky lather in contact with water and rinses off easily. Skin feels supple and comfortable after the shower, not tight, with no greasy film left behind. It is fragrance-free and does not sting the eyes, so it can be used to wash a baby's face and hair too.

Worth knowing before you buy: this oil cleanses and soothes, but very dry or atopic-prone skin still needs a moisturiser straight after the shower: the XeraCalm A.D cream or balm completes it. During flare-ups, keep showers short and lukewarm, pat the skin dry rather than rubbing, and apply the moisturiser within a few minutes.

How long a bottle lasts

Used once a day for the whole body, the 200ml bottle lasts about 3 to 4 weeks for an adult, longer for a baby. In the bath, count 5 pumps per bath.

How to use

Apply a small amount to wet skin with your hands, massage gently into the face, body or scalp, then rinse thoroughly and pat dry. For the bath, add 5 pumps to the bath water. Follow with a XeraCalm A.D moisturiser.
