Apivita Soaps 125g is the bar version of a Greek pharmacy classic, sold as an assortment: jasmine, honey, chamomile, olive or propolis. Most of the range is built on a glycerine, palm and coconut oil soap base that cleanses while leaving the skin's own hydration in place, while the olive bar uses a 100% olive oil base concentrated in fatty acids. Each one carries a plant or beehive active - organic honey extract, chamomile, lavender essential oil, geranium or propolis - and all of them are made for face and body. The propolis and thyme bar is the product Apivita launched with in 1979.

One soap base, five characters

The jasmine and honey bars are translucent, gentle and built around well-being: jasmine extract for its relaxing, soothing properties, honey and organic lavender essential oil to protect against irritation and support skin regeneration. Chamomile is the best-seller - chamomile and organic honey extracts to soothe and smooth sensitive skin on face or body, with a rich lather. Olive follows a traditional recipe, very high in fatty acids, with organic honey extract and organic geranium oil, which makes it the one to pick for dry skin. Propolis is the black bar: palm and coconut soap, a generous lather, and propolis for what the brand describes as a gentle antiseptic cleansing action.

Cleansing without stripping

What the whole range has in common is that it washes without dehydrating. The soap mass is moisturising rather than squeaky, so skin is left soft rather than tight, and the bars are mild enough to use on the face as well as the body - chamomile is explicitly recommended for sensitive skin and children, olive for body and hands. Apply to damp skin with light foaming movements and rinse thoroughly. For external use only. A bar at this size lasts considerably longer than a bottle of face wash, which is a large part of the appeal.
