A classic French ointment for small patches of irritated skin

Boiron Homeoplasmine Cream is a homeopathic ointment registered as a medicine in France, indicated as a supplementary treatment for skin irritations. It combines tinctures of calendula, phytolacca, bryony and Laos benzoin with 4% boric acid in a petrolatum base. The petrolatum forms a protective layer over dry, irritated skin, which is why many French families keep a tube for red, chapped skin around the nose and small dry patches. It comes in an 18g tube for the bag and a 40g tube for the home.

The texture

A translucent, greasy ointment rather than a cream. It melts on contact with the skin and stays on the surface as a protective film, so a thin layer is enough.

Worth knowing before you buy: Homeoplasmine contains boric acid. It is not for children under 30 months, not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and should not be used on large areas, for long periods, under a dressing, on mucous membranes, or on infected or weeping skin. For wider areas or daily use, a cosmetic repair balm such as Cicaplast Baume B5+ is a better fit.

Which size to choose

The 18g tube fits a pocket or handbag. The 40g tube is the one to keep at home for occasional use on hands and small dry patches.

How to use

Apply a thin layer to the irritated area 1 to 3 times a day. Use on small areas only and for short periods. Do not apply to mucous membranes, to infected or weeping skin, or under an occlusive dressing. Read the leaflet in the box before use.
